Bible reading : Jn.13,1-15; Lk.22,14-20; Mt.26,26-29
Theme: "Jesus doesn't dissappear, but still exists"
Jesus is close to us. It is His decision to be close to us. Our sinfulness doesn't enable us to be close to Him but He does.
It was in the National Feast of the Jews. They were aware the great work of God and they were gratitude on it. But Jesus was sad because the celebration was held without any meaning. The celebration lost its real significant, it degenerates its significant.
Do we really remember the great act of Jesus by giving Himself?
From the scene of the last supper, we can find that the center theme of the Kingdom of God is "service", not dominancy. Eucharist is a memory of Jesus. Washing the feet means "go beyond ourselves respect/ interest". With the traditional ritual, Jesus form a new tradition.
He said, "This is my body". His body means His whole life. Eucharist is a continuation of incarnation. God become one of us. We have to eat His body to be saved, to allow Him to enter to our life:
- the uniting bound of the community where Jesus is the center and we are all members.
- He continues comes to our life.
This remembrance is not just a nostalgia; but His continued presence in our midst:
- He has shown how to give totally for others.
- Join it means "Amen" for that.
- And ready to do the same.
- Ready to be served by Jesus means ready to serve others.
Eucharist is a celebration of His presence, not a celebration of His absence.
Some reflections:
- What place does the Eucharist have in my life?
- Have I understood it as sacrament of union with Jesus and with my brothers/ sisters?
- How can I make the Eucharist more personal in my life?
